Playgroup Breaks for the Summer |

What a fast and fun year we have had at playgroup. It's hard to believe that summer is here, especially with all the rain, but the month of June for us brings our playgroup year to an end.
Going into September we were unsure of our number of younger kids, as many of the regulars were moving on to playschool. We were delighted to have a few new families to the village with small ones. Also, some new babies and their mommies, of course, visited playgroup often.
Many thanks to all our gracious hosts and their enthusiasm to open playgroup and bring such yummy snacks. It was very comforting to go to the village hall on a damp and dark Monday morn and be greeted with warm smiles, hot coffee and tea, babbling babies and great company. All of us who attend are grateful for the friends our children have made as well as ourselves.
Playgroup is a regularly scheduled playtime on Monday mornings through out the school year at the village hall from 9:30am--11:30am.
It is mostly kids aged 0-4 years because of school but any child with mom, dad, caregiver, grandparent or nanny is welcome. There are many cars and trikes to ride in/on and smaller toys like lego and a play kitchen.
One thing is certain the opportunity for children to socialize and play with others their own age before getting to school is both priceless and precious.
Our last meeting is Monday June 28th.
Playgroup will resume on Monday September 13th, at the village hall, 9:30am. Have a wonderful summer everyone.

Olympic fever has hit the city! Over the past six weeks the children have been consumed by the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and you could feel the excitement building in the last few weeks leading up to the opening ceremonies. The children's largest interest came in the form of 4 furry critters, and we spent a lot of time discussing the beloved mascots: Quatchi, Sumi, Miga and Muk Muk. The children studied the Olympic Rings - with many different meanings - from friendship to the various continents coming together in harmony for the games. We talked about the various sports and discovered the favourites in the class (hocky and skiing!) and enjoyed a fun morning ice skating and also having our own mini Olympics. The Olympic Torch Relay coming through the village made a huge impact on the learning, and helped the children see what the Olympic Games really mean to the community.
Other than the excitement surrounding the Olympics, we have been busy with the academics. We have been working on early reading, and some of the 4 year olds are beginning to sound out words to try to read them. All of the 4's and a few of the 3 year olds are writing their own names, along with a few other words. We have been learning numbers through various games, keeping it a fun experience; the children are taking initiative to pull out the games and play with one another during open play.
The Playschool Open House will take place on Thursday, March 25th from 11:45am until 1pm. Families interested in enrolling for the 2010-2011 school year are invited to come and visit the classroom, and meet the teacher and executive committee. This is a wonderful opportunity for new families to become familiar with our beautiful space and meet other families. We hope to see you there!

Lions Bay Playschool will be holding it's Annual General Meeting this Thursday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall. As this is a parent run preschool, please remember that participation from all parents is necessary. See you all there!

It's hard to believe the school year is over and one
group of children is moving up and the other on to Kindergarten in the fall.
We're very blessed to have been able to share this precious time in your
children's lives, watching them grow and change every day; becoming independent,
capable beings with huge personalities. We have enjoyed building relationships
and memories with the children that will last a life time. And look forward to
the fall and the new and returning students, so we can experience new and
wonderful things, and hope the graduating class will pop in to visit and say
hello now and again.
Our first day of classes is Wednesday September 2 for
the 4 year old class, and 1 hour gradual entry on Thursday September 3 for the 3
year old class.
