Lions Bay held its inaugural "Winter Lights Festival" on Saturday, February 24, 2007. This celebration brought together all ages of our community through interactive lantern building workshops leading up to an early evening outdoor event that "lit up" the darkest time of the year. Lions Bay hosted their inaugural "Winter Lights Festival" ton Saturday, February 24, 2007. This celebration brought together all ages of our community through interactive lantern building workshops leading up to an early evening outdoor event that "lit up" the darkest time of the year. Through an Arts Now initiative and in collaboration with the Public Dreams society, this event will build in the coming years and engage our community by celebrating the special place we call home --Lions Bay.
The theme for this first festival was the Four Elements.
EARTH, AIR, FIRE AND WATER.
Each element is represented through four areas of the village. All residents are invited to participate in lantern building workshops to create lanterns that correspond with areas and elements. Then on Saturday, Feb 24th, at 6pm residents meet at four designated places throughout the village to walk as groups to the main event location, the Lions Bay Elementary School. Storytellers, earth dancers, musicians, jesters and stilt walkers will entrance all who join in this community celebration of Lions Bay. At 8 pm, a shuttle will be available to return people to each of the four starting points. For further details, please refer to posters around the village and your Winter Lights Festival invitation. Or, stop by a lantern building workshop where all the information regarding village areas and meeting points will be posted. We hope you participate and enjoy our inaugural Winter Lights festival. Let's light up the night together!
