Library Receives Grant
RAISE A READER GRANT AWARDED TO: LIONS BAY READING CENTER
We were indeed very fortunate this year to obtain a Grant from the CIBC Children’s Legacy Fund through “Raise-a- Reader” which is sponsored by CanWest /Vancouver Sun.
We were given $1,000.00 to obtain children’s books for our center.
Nancy Seow did a fantastic job and purchased 159 books for our young readers and we have set up a special area at the front of the Library for the entire Raise-a- Reader books. They are very easy to find and have inside each book a sticker identifying it as a RAR purchase.
Our youngest readers will love meeting Tabby, Snowball along with Cowgirl Kate, as they start reading our new “early reading books” on their own.
Among the new books are additions to the “Magic School Bus” series, “The Music Faeries” by Daisy Meadow, “Magic Tree House” additions. Rex Stones “Dinosaur Cove series and “Flat Stanley’s Worldwide Adventures”. And it had to happen --- “Nancy Drew Mysteries” have been updated to modern times, so can “The Hardy Boys” be far behind? There are also purchases for our very young readers, beautifully illustrated, with simple stories to encourage our young ones to read at an early age. So due to this grant, in the summer of 2010, our children can enjoy so many new adventures thanks to “The Raise a Reader” Programme.
