Additional information of interest concerning the recent house fire.
We would like to send a huge thank you to our Lions Bay Fire Rescue team. This tragic event could have been so much worse. Our Volunteer Fire Fighters, who train every Wednesday night and 4 hours on the weekends to protect our community, did an outstanding job.
The cul-de-sac where the fire occurred was on a creek bed laced with trees. The neighbouring homes share a canopy of trees that extends to the front doors of four homes and the ocean side is also densely forested. Our crews were able to save the community from what could have been so much worse. Fortunately the family was out, 911 were called, the wind was calm and the morning was cool. Our Volunteer Fire Department was able to contain the fire to one home, preventing it from getting out of hand, which it could so easily have done.
Our Volunteer Fire Fighters, who worked tirelessly to avert a disaster, deserve a huge thanks and show of support. Their annual fundraising drive has begun and they are hosting their annual Fire Fighters Day on September 13th from 2 to 10 pm at Lions Bay Beach. Please come and support these Volunteers any way you can.
Sincerely
Lions Bay Emergency Social Services
