Village Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets - Public Meeting
There will be a public meeting Tuesday, February 2nd at the Village Hall 7:00 p.m. for residents to provide comment on the Draft Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets, Policies and Actions.
After months of discussion and research, the Climate Action Task Force provided its recommendations to Council. The Provincial Government requires all communities in B.C. to include GHG reductions targets, policies and actions in their Official Community Plans by May 2010.
Consultant Michael Rosen has consolidated the recommendations and provided a draft document which is now under review. The targets are aimed at reductions in emissions from transportation, buildings and solid waste. Recognizing that Lions Bay residents contribute the most emissions from vehicles, there are 155 homes in the Village that are heated by oil furnaces. The recommendations suggest actions to inform, incent and provide alternatives for residents. Please refer to the attached ghgemissiontargetspoliciesandplans-draft3.
