I Love To Go Awandering Along the Mountain Track
The Centennial Trail has to be acknowledged for so many reasons. One is the length of time between vision and completion…the adage “all good things come to those who wait” is partially true in this case, but waiting was not enough…true grit exploring and forging new ‘ground’ meant that it was all possible. At one point prior to John Dudley and Rudi Luethy not yet finding the Northeast Passage, we suddenly did not have a trail that linked us together as a community…but the Northeast Passage was found and the trailway has been carved and shaped by committed volunteers.
Another is its very length…connecting Central Lions Bay to Brunswick…the trailway spans approximately 1.5km and in conjunction with the Tide Water Trail allows residents of Lions Bay to literally walk from one end of the community to the other, at total of approximately 3km…perhaps returning by bus.
One particularly steep area along the trail, was resolved by residents Ken More and John Stoddart, who designed a staircase, pre-cut it and with their volunteer colleagues assistance built the staircase to ‘Heaven on Earth’… this ongoing additional effort by our many many committed volunteers continues to fill my heart with joy !
This mountain track, the Centennial Trail, once finished, is a trailway that we are all going to love to go awandering on. The view scapes, the foliage with many kinds of ferns and mosses; trees with streams of sunlight flickering through…I could go on and on…this is the pure beauty.
