SUMMER IDYLL
Vigilant over a fine mesh net
Of willful silken grass
Flattened by the thirst of
Summer,
Radiates,
A frieze of dandelions,
Intrusive as hovering suns.
Creeps now through
The vibrant inferno,
Gregarious
Fernmoss ‘ insidious trail;
Jade contrast
To sunset cedar dust.
Shadows away,
Stacked between book-end trees,
Sinewy slabs of aromatic cedar
And rag-veined fir:
Fodder for Winter.
Bathe while you may
In currents of
Shimmering tides,
For cackling tongues will
Beckon soon. Over all
A frieze of lions
Pretending to be
Halos of
Golden suns.
