Last Call for Bear Resistant Garbage Bins
Sent on behalf of the Bear Smart Committee:
Since the Village changed to a Friday semi-automated waste pick up system, bear resistant bins can now be placed at kerbside for pick up, but the clips need to be unhooked garbage morning.
Keep in my mind these bins are 'bear resistant' not bear-proof. Of the 6,000 bins used in Port Moody for a year, 10 were accessed by bears. The damaged bins were carried away to nearby wild areas so that the bear had plenty of time to get them open. The most effective way to store these bins outside is to attach the handles to a permanent structure until garbage day.
The bins are $200. prepaid with tax and shipping to Lions Bay included. Please contact Norma at

by the end of February if you would like to be added to the spring 2010 bear resistant bin order list. So far we have six residents on this bin order list.
Thank you,
