A Great Year Had by All
Lions Bay Playschool has had an amazing year. So many learning opportunities shared by our twenty seven students. This year we were able to combine most of the incoming 3’s due to their early birthdates and create a 3 year old class of 19 students. Working alongside a great assistant teacher, we have gotten to know a very enthusiastic group of engineers, chef’s, caregivers, police officers, firefighters, writers, personal organizers, vets, public speakers, teachers, CEO’s, artists, marine biologists, doctors, actors, mentors and of course friends. Our playschoolers have been a lot of fun to teach and learn from and more will be written about them next year as they continue their learning adventures.
The graduating class of 2024 more commonly known as “my 4’s”, are more than ready for their Kindergarten adventure to begin, some days almost too ready! These fantastic eight students have formed a bond like so many others before them attending Lions Bay Playschool from our great community. They are an empathetic bunch who look out for each other, respect each other’s feelings and encourage each other. They are a team; they actually remind me of our trail blazer team. Willing to include anyone, working hard to reach the (critical eye) desired outcome, patiently discovering new routes and confident enough to veer off course to trek a new path.
For the last two months my students and I have asked each other – How am I going to feel when they make the real move downstairs to the big school and Kindergarten? They respond with, “You will be sad because we are not with you.” True…. “But you will feel proud because we are so ready.” True… I even get told “when we move to the big school you will still see us as we come off the bus, your house is right there and we can always see you.” The next chapter comes so quickly for these young people and I do feel proud and also somewhat sad. It is a great privilege to help shape the Village Spirit for these young students, looking down the road to continued personal and academic success. They are a great group, reminding me of past groups of Lions Bay students, who are also still the team they once were – one of those teams I know so well, graduate this year from Rockridge.
Have a great summer everyone! Continue to learn and grow and let your trail evolve. Don’t set it in stone, there is still so much to carve out.
