What About Meditation?
Source material from Osho: “Meditation, The First and Last Freedom”
“Meditation is an adventure, adventure into the unknown, the greatest adventure the human mind can take.
“Meditation is just to be, not doing anything – no action, no thought, no emotion. You just are and it is a sheer delight.
“From where does this delight come when you are not doing anything?
“It comes from nowhere, or it comes from everywhere. It is uncaused, because existence is made of the stuff called joy.” OSHO
Meditation in its essence is the art of being in a relaxed state of awareness, awareness of what is going on inside and around you with a non-judgmental attitude.
Unfortunately many of us have lost touch with this inner guide. We find it difficult to be aware of our thoughts and feelings, also the idea of sitting still for an hour or more may not appeal to us; we are a society in hyper-drive – always doing, going faster, and rushing about for...what?
No wonder stress-related illness is so prevalent these days. Meditation is medicine to heal your mind, body and spirit. It is not a doing; it is simply an understanding, a knack, a turning, from looking out, to looking in.
Although meditation itself is not a technique, there are many methods available to help you learn this awareness, and as you acquire this knack, it can be your companion wherever you are – at work or play or anywhere.
Usually we go out when we want to relax, but meditation offers us another possibility – to go in to relax.
If you are an active person who doesn’t like the idea of sitting still, or you feel you have pent up emotions that you would like to express, or you would like to move your body, and let the relaxation come on its own accord, then the OSHO ACTIVE MEDITATIONS may be just right for you.
These powerful meditation techniques were designed by Osho, a contemporary mystic, for the modern person who has difficulty coming into stillness otherwise. The techniques that Osho developed begin with an active phase, a catharsis, which helps one to come into a natural state of relaxation and awareness.
When you dance with your whole energy involved, a moment comes when suddenly you see that the dance is happening on its own – there is no effort in it. It is action without action. This moment is meditation.
“You can move into passivity only when all that is there like junk has been thrown out. Anger has been thrown out, greed has been thrown out…layer upon layer, these things are there. But once you have thrown them out, you can easily slip in. There is nothing to hinder. And suddenly the bright light of the Buddha land. And suddenly you are in a totally different world – the world of the Lotus Law, the world of Dharma, the world of Tao.” Osho: Meditation, The First and Last Freedom
When you can be simply available to this moment, what is happening here and now, a song arises in your being. Allowing this song to flourish is the greatest gift you can give to yourself.
When our hearts are open, we feel like singing, and when we sing our hearts open! That is why singing can be such a transformative force.
If you would like to experiment with some wonderful meditation techniques developed by Osho and to open up your heart space with singing and chanting, then come and join us in the Lions Bay Hall.
