Lions Bay Arts Council

Since our start in December 2010, we have been reaching out to Villagers with our message “Support the Arts in Lions Bay”.  The first step of course is in becoming a community member of the Arts Council.  We now have a membership of 44 -  a good start for a fledgling group and we are aiming for 100 members by the end of this year.

Another major goal for this year has been to integrate our support with existing Village community groups.  We have been part of the 40th Anniversary celebration events by providing the design of the posters for each event.

Some of them have been cute and some have been inspiring – we hope that all of them have created greater awareness of the wonderful, fun events that have taken place so far this year in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Lions Bay. We also have some exciting plans for the remainder of this year. National Cultural Days, September 30, October 1st and 2nd are a national celebration of culture in Canada.  Lions Bay Arts Council is creating a cultural event for the Village to be part of this national cultural awareness program.

ArtScene 2011, our annual Art Show and Sale will be held during this celebration along with a variety of performance events .  Last December, about 130 people viewed and purchased the work of 13 Lions Bay Artists.  This year, we are looking for more and varied art forms to include in the Show as well as local performing artists to provide a broad cultural program for the enjoyment of all our residents and friends.

The Arts Council is not just for visual artists.  We welcome all artists as well as those professionals who are in artistic fields.  The greater our diversity of membership in the Arts, the more stimulating our cultural influence can be in Lions Bay.
