Lions Bay Library
From our Shelves - Fall 2011
With September, comes the return of bittersweet normalcy to our lives. Programmes throughout the Village start up again and so it is with the Lions Bay Library. We are excited that this year marks the 30th year of operation of our Library. In honour of this special year, we are extending our hours.
Please note the following changes and additions to our Library Hours starting SEPTEMBER 7th, 2011.
We hope that these new hours will make it more convenient for the children and parents who attend both Mommies and Tots and the Tai Kwon Do lessons on Mondays to visit the Library.
ON OUR SHELVES
We have purchased many “Best Sellers” over the summer and have a grand bunch of books ready for our Book Club Members (of which there are three in the Village).
Our many mystery fans will be able to catch up on the latest sleuth’s antics in books by Leon, Patterson and Menkell. We also have the newest books by Canadian writers such as Elizabeth Hays Alone in the Classroom, and Nikloski, which won the 2010 Canada Reads Award. While it is almost time to put our gardens to bed, Carolyn Herriot’s Zero Mile Diet and Backyard Bounty are both books encouraging organic gardening throughout the year in the Northwest.
The Children’s department has added many new DVD’s, such as The Princess Bride, Gnomeo and Juliet and Eliose at the Plaza.

YOUR INPUT MATTERS
To help us better promote the Library and to plan for our future, surveys have been drawn up with the help of the Village Office and our Volunteers. It is our hope that Residents will take time to complete these surveys to provide us with important information about your needs and wants regarding the Library’s future operations. The surveys will be available at the Post Office, the Library, and the Village Office, as well as from the Library Volunteers. Click here to download the 2011 Library Survey as a PDF file.
APPRECIATIONS
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Council, Office Staff and especially the Library Volunteers for their support and hard work on behalf of the Library over the past year. As we are extending our operating hours for our residents, it is also important that we have enough volunteers. Anyone interested in joining our group of volunteers please contact Annmarie Gates at 604.921.7025.
So, with thirty years of operation to celebrate, please remember to come and visit on September 20th for a lesson in archaeology, to join our ArtScene2011 celebrations on October 1st, and to fill out those important surveys. We look forward to seeing you at the Library.
Thank you,
The Volunteers
