Another Great Success!!!
When Harold Gienger invited Project Hands to be the charity of choice in his annual Lions Bay Golf Tournament again we were delighted. To be invited two years in a row is quite an honour and to be once again so generously supported by the village is truly humbling. Thank you so much!
We had a great time this year. We finally got some wonderful weather (the first of the season), were able to have all our 72 golfers tee off at the same time with our 'shot gun start' and we raised a whopping $11,200 for Project HANDS. That's 3/4 of the cost of a full surgical trip. AMAZING!
So many volunteers and friends pitched in to make this a fun and successful event its hard to know where to start. I would like to thank Flo and her sisters for selling so many mulligan tickets and helping out with the putting contest.
Sonia and Elsa kept everyone happy serving up our Sangria and donatedCobbs Bread tasters on hole # 1. Mel and Tracy did a great job selling raffle tickets for our Whole Foods, Everything Wine and IlNido Italian Baskets. Our silent auction had a wide range of wonderful items donated including a junior golf set and bag from Roger Cosgrove, rounds of golf from Furry Creek, Squamish and Bowen Island, services from Angle Hands Massage, Bliss Hair, Emma's Interior Designing, Guitar lessons from David, and gardening from Barbara and the Dudley's.Passes were donated from Splashdown Park, The Yoga Practice,
The Biggest Loser program and Personal Trainers. Joeys Restaurant and Salt donated meal certificates. CoCo Fluer Village Flowers donated 3 bouquets and provided us with a discount for the orange Gerbers we used. Thank you Colleen. Tess collected and donated a beautiful Napa Valley Basket, Indigo and The Book Warehouse donated great book collections and we received many sculptures, jewelry pieces and home treasures to add to the beautiful art pieces donated by Helene Farladeau, Ute Phillips from SimpleToGive,
Michael Tickner and Englebert Romero. Electronics, cologne, wine making kits and Starbucks coffee rounded out the offerings. Thank you so much to everyone that donated to our silent auction. There was absolutely something there for everyone and Nohra and her team did a fantastic job of organizing this part of the event. Well done Nohra!
The golf winners were extremely well treated with fantastic golf items provided at cost by Roger Cosgrove from Peak Golf Equipment in North Vancouver. They had the choice of high end golf apparel, golf balls, and clubs and everyone had the chance of winning raffle prizes from his table as well. So lots of golfers and dinner guests went home with great items from Peak Golf. Roger also takes on the task of tallying up the scores, so thank you for all you work on this Roger and for supporting Lions Bay and Project HANDS.
Our auctioneer extraordinaire, John Gould, managed to get the crowd into a bidding frenzy for our 3 Live Auction items. Phil Marsh again donated Row 1 Canucks Hockey tickets that were provided with babysitting included. Thank you Phil.
Thank you to those that donated wine for our 2nd prize. We had 38 beautiful bottles of wine donated to make up our Wine Cellar Replenishment Package. I'm sure Joey is still enjoying those! And there was a bidding war for our Whistler Escape package donated by the Maryniaks. Great fun!
We were lucky enough to have the Benavides brothers play acoustic Latin American music for us again this year. Geoff Woad kindly sponsored the musicians and it was greatly appreciated. Thank you Geoff
Tanya manages the Project HANDS brand, and did a great job of coordinating displays and setting up the event again with the help of her partner David. Thank you!
And of course, to our golf hole sponsors. Thank you so much. We couldn't of done it without you!
Glen Dodd from Portfolio Strategies, Dale Falconer from Remax Realty, Michael Broughton from Lions Bay General Store, Joey Freeze from Candente Group, Kim Mailey from The Mailey Rogers Group, Ken Wolder from Lions Bay Marina, Robert Eadie from iMining, Keir Surgical and David and Barbara Enns.
I would also like to make a special thank you to Cheryl Wozny from Lions Bay Community News and lionsbay.net. Providing the advertising space and opportunity to thank everyone in her publication(s) for free really make a big difference to us. Thank you so much Cheryl.
But we couldn't of raised so much without YOU .... the participants. Thank you to all those that joined us for the golf tournament and bid so generously on our items. We are delighted with what was raised , and as you know, this money goes such a long way to providing much needed medical support to indigenous Mayan people in rural Guatemala. Thank you so very much!
