Although the weather was overcast, the spirits of the crowd of over 200 Canada Day supporters was not, as Lions Bay residents family and friends gathered together to reflect on the wonderful country in which we live.

After a rousing rendition of 'Oh Canada' by Karen Fowlie and Christie McPhee, MLA Joan McIntyre and Mayor Brenda Broughton both addressed the audience with a thought-provoking reflection on what it means to live in Canada.

Then well-deserving citizens received a number of awards including the Contributing Community Elder, Recognition for Meritorious Service, Citizen of Distinction and Citizen of the year Awards. Scholarships were also awarded - the Curley Stewart Trust Scholarship, the Community Scholarship Foundation and the Norman Kirby Scholarship.

A lively band, face painting, an obstacle course, bouncy castle, free hotdogs, organic hamburgers, vegedogs, drinks and the cutting of the delicious Canada Day cake rounded off the festivities.

As always, we say thank you to our generous sponsors - Dale Falconer Remax Realty, Howe Sound Marine Ltd and Super Save Fuels for supporting the event. To our Events Committee organizer, Jenny Sumner, and the Canada Day Events Committee members - as well as all those who did behind the scenes work, who helped baking and setting up - we appreciate your hard work!
