Municipal Government
Kelvin Grove thank you! (on behalf of Public Works Manager)
To the residents of Kelvin Grove Way and the Village et al,
After a few long months of what seemed like a minor leak at the road edge, the emergency reconstruction and stabilization of the corner slope, the repair and review of the water main infrastructure, paving and storm water drainage has been completed!
I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your patience and support during this unexpected emergency project. You had to endure unplanned water shut offs, road closures as well as many other inconveniences and you were all amazing. There were many days that I did not know what to expect as surprises were many on this project. Every cut into the road and every stage of excavation revealed new challenges due to the proximity of homes, road accessibility and the extremely poor quality of materials supporting the infrastructure services. (Hydro, Telus, Shaw, water, sewer and drainage were all compromised during the slow slope failure over the years)
I can, with the utmost confidence, assure you, that with you and your families safety in mind at all times, we can now call this emergency project an engineered success.
The wonderful people that reside in the four homes directly in the affected area are worth recognizing, simply because they were so understanding right from the get go. I am amazed that even with having their driveways removed, half of the road gone, plantings removed, visual structures removed and all the while they had such resilience throughout the entire time. Mind you, I would not have wanted to be a fly on the wall in any of the dining rooms! All kidding aside, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifices and kind dispositions. You know who you are.....so does everyone else in the neighbourhood. Thank you to all the solitary walkers and dog walkers for your conversations and patience. Thank you to all that were willing to share your frustrations with us so that we could offer the explanations that challenged us to do this with purpose.
I could go into great detail about this project, but this would be a very very long email. I just want to recognize the players on my team and offer my time to anyone who would like the whole story on this project.
I have heard one resounding phrase since I was fortunate enough to receive the honour of being awarded the position of Manager of Public Works for the Village. "It takes a Village"....... I have to admit, I wasn't really sure what this meant when I first heard it. But, man oh man, I know it like warm soup on a cold day now and I am still learning.......
The support, response and assistance from this community and the satellite support from major service providers has been nothing short of awesome. Here are the names/companies of those that have my unwavering appreciation in supporting this projects fruition:

G.E. Koba - working to find solutions to keep costs down, impeccable work, long hours and assisting the residents directly affected by this near miss, being a resident helped the confidence level of these families in knowing that you will stand behind this project for years to come.
And finally ..... The rest of Lions Bay residents for your patience, support and understanding for delays in other projects due to the scope of this one, you all make coming to work rewarding, fun and enjoyable!
And as always, my wife........ you know...
