Written by Sheila Bromiley
A few weeks ago we received an article in our mail box. It claimed to be from concerned residents with no names. We put it with the recycling! If a person can't own up to having written something I am not going to waste my time reading it.
This weekend an email started doing the rounds once more from nameless concerned citizens, however, this time it came from an email address

. I fired off a response to these nameless people. My email was returned "delivery failed mailbox unavailable". My email is attached below, I hope the nameless residents will read it, but most importantly I hope the majority of residents in this wonderful village will openly communicate with each other and vote for people who own up to their opinions.
Concerned Residents!!!!
I don’t know who you are, but you don’t belong in “My Lions Bay”.
I moved here in 1972, in those days we were a small group.
We helped each other, we volunteered, we knew our neighbours.
We did not hide behind anonymous letters.
This is the second anonymous letter to do the rounds, if you have a point to make sign your name.
If you can’t sign your name to the points you make, how can anyone take you seriously.
Mayor Broughton moved to Lions Bay with her family at the same time as us and whilst I may not always agree with her I know Lions Bay is in her heart.
She and her family have been front and centre, for 40 years, every time volunteers are needed.
Where have you been? Have you ever volunteered or helped a friend?
How do we know what you have done for this village, other than cause dissent.
I know the Lions Bay I want after November 19th.
I want to be able to greet fellow villagers and not wonder if they are a poison pen writer.
I want to enjoy the peace and harmony we used to have in our community.
We don’t pay our politicians enough to put up with this abuse.
Whether you agree with them or not, they have tried to serve the village.
If you don’t agree with them, debate them. Don’t resort to anonymous letter writing.
If you think you can do a better job run for the office and own your thoughts and opinions.
I am a citizen who is happy to live in a corner of paradise,
my name is Sheila Bromiley.

While I agree with your sentiment here for anomynous letter writing, I question why it is soo important for such an emphasis to be placed on the "us versus them" in your reference to those, such as yourself, who have been residing in Lions Bay for nearly 40 years.
I am a relatively new resident to Lions Bay. I too have concerns, especially for our neglected infrastructure. But, we should recognize that we are a community by being inclusive of all rather than presenting ourselves as that of an exclusive beach club.
We are no longer a small group, nor do many of us have the time to assist others in their tasks as we are struggling to pay down our debt while spending time with our families. My wife and I recognized this when our lumber truck tipped over outside the community hall and only those at the fire hall assisted with our struggle to stack the wood at road side; we spent 6.5 hours hauling lumber on a saturday afternoon despite countless passerbys.
I am a volounteer, often even in our own community, as a Search and Rescue Member. I am an Environmental Professional and have expressed my concerns for drainage to various council members through e-mail. I too am happy to live in a corner of paradise as Lions Bay. But I too wish to be recognized as a resident on a level playing field, serving perhaps in less traditional ways, and not one whose value is measured on time served.
I look forward a positive and inclusive outlook for Lions Bay under Brenda's term as Mayor. Maybe we'll see Upper Bayview Road be re-vitalized after all in this term.
