Interests Travel A World Traveller Visiting Lions Bay

travellerMasahito Yoshida, a 30 year old engineer from Japan decided to walk around the world. He started on 1 January 2009 from Shanghai and crossed Asia and Europe on foot to the westernmost point in Europe: Cabo da Roca, near Lisbon, Portugal. On the way he passed through China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.

He continued his journey in North America, walking from Atlantic City to Ottawa and on to Toronto where he spent the winter. He then walked via Edmonton, the Icefields Parkway, Revelstoke and Whistler and after spending a night in Lions Bay at Rainer and Kathrinʼs place he arrived in Vancouver on 4 October 2011, after 2 years and 9 months, 1007 on the road.

So far he has walked 22ʼ000 km! He is pulling a cart with his belongings, 50kg, and mostly walks along the highway, having crossed much of Canada using the Trans-Canada Highway. He covers around 50 km a day.

Masahito will soon be on his way to Melbourne, Australia from where he is planning to walk northwards to Darwin. The last part of his journey will be from Singapore back to his starting point, Shanghai.

Why does he do it? ʻI like to walk. I like to visit small villages and meet the locals.ʼ
