Community Services Municipal Government Council Highlights 2008-2011

Thank you to everyone who attended the Inaugural Meeting of Council and to Judge Jane Auxier and RCMP Inspector Neil Cross attending. Thank you so very much to Staff for both organizing and attending the Inaugural Meeting of Council

I have been, and continue to be honoured to be the Mayor of the Village of Lions Bay. As your Mayor, I can say with confidence that both the Outgoing and Incoming Council have been and are committed to working to ensure the best for the Village of Lions Bay.

Over the three year term, 2008-2011, the now Outgoing Council, through meetings and consultation with the community, has helped significantly in moving Lions Bay forward; while preserving and protecting our unique Village spirit, beautiful natural environment and low tax rate.

Thank you to previous Council for all of their work, dedication and projects completed on behalf of and in consultation with the residents of the Village of Lions Bay.

Thank you to the Council of 2008-2011: Councillor Peach Akerhielm, Councillor Joanne Ronsley (continuing again this term), Councillor Ruth Simons and Councillor Gordon Taylor.

The outgoing Council accomplished a significant amount as follows: The second Official Community Plan, adopted April, 2009 and modified to meet Bill 27 Climate Action Goals, May, 2010. The Sea to Sky Highway Improvement Project was completed including Ashlar Stone Sound Walls, Quiet Pavement, Village Style Lamp posts, irrigated median and berm landscaping.

The two Ultra-Violet Water Intake Upgrades at Harvey and Magnesia Creeks came in under budget, allowing for room within the Grant Funding for required Rock Scaling and was successfully completed with 2/3 grant funding. The upgrade meets the highest standard of Federal Water Legislation. The addition of Ultra-Violet with existing Chlorination created a multi-barrier treatment system to maintain a healthy water supply.

The Lower Lions Bay Water Line Replacement of 50 year old pipes, was successfully completed with 2/3 grant funding.

The Kelvin Grove Sewer Treatment Upgrade was successfully completed with 2/3 grant funding.
