Lions Bay Celebrates 30 Years at the Library

Being invited to participate in the activities of October 1st with ArtScene 2011 provided the Library a wonderful opportunity to invite our readers to celebrate our 30th year of service to the community.
The Library was as delighted as were the attending residents with the presentation of the Mural, crafted by our young Lions Bay Community school students. The unveiling of the mural was attended by Mayor Broughton, MLA Joan McIntyre and many extremely proud parents.
Moving inside, our residents were treated to a wonderful reading by our local poet, Bill Kimmett. Bill explained the system under which he creates his poetry… a serene Lions Bay scene or a walk in the woods can inspire his poetry. Picking his poetry at random, he gave the background which inspired each poem read, and inspired we were by his presentation.
Karen Dyer kicked up the pace with her wonderful and delightful outfit, then readings from her new books, A Walk Through a Window and Facing Fire. While writing basically for children, I know a lot of adults were anxious to read these books as well, and we thank her so much for the donation of her signed editions.
We moved nicely from poetry and prose to the celebration of the 30 years our Library has been prominent in our village. Over 60 residents joined the celebration including our Mayor and MLA who enjoyed “Tea & Cake” with everyone.
We were graced by Library Volunteers from the past and present, with Mansje More explaining how the Library came to fruition 30 years ago at a meeting of the local Reading Club, who wanted to have access to books in their village. And so we thank both Volunteers and residents for their continued support and look forward to future years.
