What is this place we call "Lions Bay"?
The 40th Anniversary of our Village was commemorated last year with a Lions Bay Passport. I enjoyed many an “Event” stamping our young citizenʼs passports!
Let's see what the 40th Anniversary Stamps have to tell us about what enlivens and adds colour to our community, perhaps better than a thousand words.
The surprized Harbour Seal saw many brave souls leap into his watery domain on New Years Day, an event as puzzling as the bewitching powers of the new moon. The Seal in our reach of Howe Sound of course has many oceanic neighbours - how many can you name?
For February we note a nourishing bowl of soup, surely a symbol of warm hospitality.
In Spring, music falls from the sky for those wishing to hear it, the children Dance, and an astonished Bunny with basket-in-paw emerges from his burrow to bring candies to eager hands and smiles to many faces.
There is a Tree of Knowledge and our 30-year Library to inform the young as well as the old.
The Centennial Trail and the Mountain Hiker encourage us to get out-andabout to enjoy our superb environment of mountain, forest and ocean.
Will the Seagull, an icon from the time of Lions Bay's birth, lead our minds into the avian kingdom to marvel at those tiny and large living creatures that fly above and among us, some travelling thousands of miles to do so?
The Maple Leaf needs no comment, save to say that Canada comes together from coast to coast to coast.
The floral emblem of our Village is the delicate Red Columbine, one of many colourful and exquisite plants that are to be found near to us. They are surely symbolic of all that grows upon the land, the bounty of Nature that feeds and intrigues us.
As the darkness begins to come early in late October, happy and goulish Pumkins sit on many doorsteps, amusing to adults but beckoning disguised children to ring doorbells in anticipation of spoils for empty sacks.
For help in times of great need, please see the stamp of our 40+ Lions Bay Fire and Rescue Department and commend their dedication.
Lions Bay is indeed a place of many colours and symbols.
