Opinion Recognitions Village People Captain Ronald Gordon (Nick) CHESTER

captNickIn the spirit of remembrance and honour that Canadians celebrate each year on November 11th. we would like to make note of the passing of Lions Bay's own veteran, Captain Ronald Gordon "Nick" Chester (MMM, CD - Retired), in the afternoon of November 20th. Nick, in his own words - "slipped the surly bonds of Earth" to finally fly free after a long and bravely fought battle with a little known and inaptly named syndrome: POEMS. His beloved wife Isobel; and their sons and family, have a heartfelt letter they would like to pass along... "Our family has been given this opportunity to thank the people of Lions Bay for the love and support shown to us over the past 20 years as Nick weathered the different stages of his condition. Your support - and many of you remain unnamed though not forgotten or appreciated - allowed us to continue our daily lives and proceed in a dignified manner.

Karl & Helga Barth, Fred & Dierdre Bain (and family) Ken & Mansje More, Chris & Anne Page (and family), Douglas Miller (thank you for your humour!), Darryl Clarke (a lovely afternoon of jazz), Vaughan Bates & John Luke (tea and roses!), Joe & Joanne Ronsley, Susan Milligan and Valori McKay (house cleaning and food prep), Tracy Wilson, Brian & Sheila Croston, Jim and Linda Coss, all of you made such a difference!

In the days following Nick's death, Mina Morton was there with Alex's muffins and Pam Carron with her delicious soup, so very many people sharing the journey with us... thank you all for your prayers and kind wishes.

We really appreciate the superlative care Nick received at the North Shore Hospice which gave him, myself and our family and friends the privacy and serenity so much appreciated at end of life".

Celebration of Nick's life will be held at the West Vancouver Bowling Club on

Thursday, December 29th., 1 to 4pm.
