Education Local Education It Takes a Village

How lucky are our youngsters in Lions Bay that they are able to learn and grow in such an amazing community.  For that matter how lucky am I that I get to be the first teacher for so many of our
Lions Bay children.  This year has seen some fantastic community connections for our young learners.  As I prepare to send another graduating class onto kindergarten I reflect upon the excitement we experienced together.  Here are some highlights.

Post Master Rick – teaching us all about the mail and showing us the workings of the back room.

General Store Manager Vaughan – being so sneaky with the parcels and helping every child receive their special mail.

The library ladies for indulging us once a month (unless Mother Nature interfered) for stories, book selections and crazy Halloween costumes and treats.

The fire fighters for letting some students teach them about screw drivers and letting us get a little dirt in the new truck.

The filling in ambulance staff that had no idea we were arriving and provided us with a great tour.

The Mayor and Village office staff for our Mock Election on how to fix the Lions Bay Dog poop problems.

The Trail Blazers for letting us investigate how to divert water off our beaten path.

The Playgroup mommies for letting us crash Monday morning playgroup.

The Community Garden project for allowing us to have a space to watch and learn from.

The works yard who we have been planning all year and are going to get to, come broken water main, green waste pick up, or snow clearing, we will get there.  Although that meant missing out on the Marina, next year Ken you are on the calendar.

As I send off this year’s graduating class I must say a huge thank you to all who inspire and help educate the children of our community.  It really does take a village.  For me I think I cherish my sweet little students, 3’s and 4’s, who make me learn something new every day.  They fill my days with smiles and laughter, and dog pile hugs that can never be duplicated.

Happy summer to all and please let me know if you have a talent, adventure or learning experience you would like to share with our Bright Futures of Lions Bay.
