HAMFieldday2011Amateur Radio Operators Compete Across the Continent

Radio Sports Competition Ever since the summer of 1933, ham radio operators across North America take part in an annual continent wide radio sports competition known as field day. In this competition over 35,000 radio operators participate within different clubs or organizations to build amateur radio stations on vacant fields in relatively short order such as to simulate a destructive event whereby the mains power is out and the communications infrastructure needs to be rebuilt in a place free of debris from ground up. Huge structurally sound antennas are built enabling transcontinental communication in a race to get the most contacts in a 24 hour period commencing 11:00am Saturday June 22 and ending 11:00am Sunday June 23. The North Shore Amateur Radio Club, of which I am a member, will be participating in this radio sporting event on the field by the old rock quarry on the road past the Cypress Bowl lookout. Everyone is invited.

Please see the following forwarded email regarding Information Sessions about the Before and After School Child Care Programs which will be available at Lions Bay and Gleneagles Schools.

Dear Parents;

Mr. Wallace and Mr. Billingsley have been busy planning for a potential Before and After School Child Care program, to be made available to parents for the coming school year beginning in September 2013.

This Child Care will be available to school-aged students attending both Gleneagles Ch’axáý and Lions Bay schools, and will be held on-site at each location.  These plans are being made in conjunction with Jill Lawlor of the West Vancouver Community Center, and will offer a convenient alternative to parents who require care for their children outside of regular school hours.

Parents are encouraged to attend an information session regarding the proposed Before and After School Child Care programs, as your input will directly affect the arrangements being made for these programs.
