VillageOfLionsBayLogoWe regret to announce that the Library will be temporary closed whilst repairs are made to a leak in the roof.

If you have any unreturned books, please hang on to them until the Library reopens – no fines will be incurred.

We will provide an update on the situation next week.

Smithrite have advised us today that recycling at a significant number of properties was placed curbside after their collection was complete.

Please may we remind residents that recycling must be put out before 7.30am to ensure pickup.

VillageofLionsBayCoat-Of-ArmsthumbnailOn February 11th, 2013, a publication came out to the Community, ‘To the Village of Lions Bay’, with information, some of which was not accurate. Please take a moment to update your knowledge regarding the Village of Lions Bay Infrastructure completion and other advances.

Infrastructure Planning and Project Completion:

The Village of Lions Bay can be proud that their elected Councils have consistently been guided by the 2005 Infrastructure Master Plan.  Council of the day commissioned, Earthtech, a Professional Engineering firm, to provide a summary infrastructure needs assessment, including what remains to be done and recommendations to address deficiencies, and analyze the Water Treatment options.

DO YOU NEED CHILDCARE?

The Village of Lions Bay is working with Lions Bay Playschool, Lions Bay School PAC and the West Van School District 45 to assess the childcare needs of the community.

If you need childcare before school, after school or daycare, please contact Councillor Ando at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

To the Editor:

I reference my article dated March 20th titled Village of Lions Bay Finances & Operations – 1st Quarter-2013, and specifically the section styled Non Community Center Renewal Infrastructure and 2005 Infrastructure Master Plan.

I stated that (2005 $’s) $813,000 of work remained to be completed vs. the previously announced amount of (2005 $’s) $555,000. This was not correct.

Mayor Broughton has returned from a brief holiday and confirmed the originally reported $555,000 number is correct.

VillageofLionsBayCoat-Of-ArmsthumbnailThe Five Year Plan is a “big picture going forward” document which is mandated to be presented to the public in April. The freshest comparative (annual audited) financial information at that time is sixteen months old. Five Year Plan proposed projections are based on the Operating Budget and Capital Expenditure plan for the current year. Historically the year end annual financial statements have not been received until early June. A (very high level and legislated) Corporate Report covering the year-end is required by the end of June. While both of these disclosures provide a past snap shot and forward direction of the Village’s affairs, they lack granularity with respect to analysis of operations, major events, personnel, challenges, or the rationale for the financial strategy undertaken. A personal mandate for me has been to provide the residents with as much current financial and operational information as possible to assure transparency in the Village’s affairs.
